Тhe Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic hosted an International Roundtable on "The Development of Water Law in Central Asia" on November 19, 2024. The event was jointly organized with the Diplomatic Academy at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) of the Republic of Uzbekistan and was held in an online format.

Opening remarks were delivered by the Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of MFA KR, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Akylbek Kylychev, and the Director of the Diplomatic Academy at UWED, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Abdysamat Khaidarov.

The roundtable was divided into three sessions, each dedicated to key aspects of water law and the management of water resources.

Session 1: "Supporting the Implementation of the UN Water Action Decade Goals: Addressing the Water Agenda and Identifying Challenges and Opportunities Related to Fulfilling UN Resolution Commitments."Moderator: Head of the Department at the Diplomatic Academy at UWED, Z. Pulatkhojaev.

Speakers: S. Alamanov, Ph.D. in Geography, Professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. R. Hakimov, staff member of the Institute of State and Law at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Session 2: "Water Management and Law. Water Cooperation and Diplomacy." Moderator: Head of the Department of International Relations and Politics at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ph.D. in History, Professor A. Dzhorobekova.

Speakers: D. Ziganshina, Director of the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination. A. Ten, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Session 3: "The Development of Hydropower as an Environmentally Friendly and Renewable Energy Source, Implementation of Water-Saving Technologies, and Hydro-Economic Modeling." Moderator: D. Amanov, Head of the Department at the Diplomatic Academy at UWED.

Speakers: B. Japakova, Deputy Director of the Energy Institute at I. Razzakov Kyrgyz State Technical University. Sh. Akhmedov, Deputy Director of the Institute for Advanced International Studies at UWED.

The event highlighted the need to enhance regional cooperation and improve legal mechanisms for managing transboundary water resources in Central Asia. Participants exchanged views and practical approaches aimed at ensuring sustainable water resource management and advancing environmentally friendly energy.

The roundtable served as an important platform for strengthening dialogue among the countries of the region and seeking joint solutions for the conservation and effective utilization of water resources.
