Department of International Relations and Law


The department of “International Relations and Law” is focused in its educational and scientific activities on the preparation of bachelors in the direction 530800 “International Relations” and masters in the following directions: 530800 “International Relations”, 530500 “Jurisprudence” and 530600 “Journalism” in accordance with the requirements of the State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education Kyrgyz Republic.

Master’s degree programs implemented in each direction cover a wide range of issues that are most relevant at the present stage of development of international relations and international law. The combination of general and specialized courses makes it possible to deeply study issues of international political issues, such as the foreign policy priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic at the present stage, problems of modern international relations and world politics, integration processes in Central Asia / CIS, megatrends and global problems, international security in the global and regional levels.

At the same time, students receive solid training in the field of modern branches of international law, including international humanitarian law, international criminal law and the problems of international legal regulation of migration. During their master’s studies, students acquire theoretical knowledge and experimental skills, acquire the ability to plan and implement complex scientific projects.

Applying innovative teaching methods, the teachers of the department strive to develop the foundations of analytical thinking in students and listeners. Classes are organized using various forms of education: round tables, situational seminars, business games and presentations in order to create conditions for polemical dialogue.

The department conducts scientific work with graduate students and doctoral students, as well as with applicants for scientific degrees in the field of political sciences.

One of the main directions of the scientific and pedagogical activity of the department is the analysis of the features and mechanisms of the processes of modernization of the Kyrgyz society, the formation of new political institutions in the context of conflicting trends and factors caused by globalization and regionalization of world trends.

The concept of the activity of this scientific and pedagogical direction assumes the solution, within the framework of the political science discourse, of urgent tasks of the foreign policy process that have scientific and practical significance for ensuring the national state security of the Kyrgyz Republic, increasing the efficiency of the functioning of democratic political institutions. The department maintains close scientific contacts with the Tomsk State University, the Russian University of Peoples’ Friendship, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO (U), the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Since 2016, a joint master’s program in Eurasian Studies has been implemented with the National Research Tomsk State University, with Joint training of masters in the areas of “International Relations” and “International Law” with RUDN University began in 2019. The peculiarity of the implementation of such joint projects is the receipt of double diplomas.

The department has become an active partner of the Russian Center for Geopolitical Research “Berlek-Unity” (RF, Ufa) and conducting scientific research in the field of modern political and social processes in the CIS countries, as well as organizing various meetings and events for students of the Diplomatic Academy. As an official partner of the CGI, the department attracts students from other universities of Kyrgyzstan to participate in such meetings (Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, Kyrgyz National University, Kyrgyz State University named after I. Arabaev, Kyrgyz State Law Academy).

Graduates are productively working in the legislative and executive authorities of the republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyrgyz representations abroad, international organizations, and have already managed to win the glory and pride of the Academy. Many of them are in demand in academic institutions and business circles. The high level of education and rich research traditions allow us to look to the future with confidence and optimism.

One of the important forms of the department’s work was meetings with representatives of the diplomatic corps. Frequent guests of the students of the Diplomatic Academy are the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the countries accredited in the Kyrgyz Republic. Meetings of this kind allow students and undergraduates to obtain information about countries and bilateral relations, learn about the peculiarities of the diplomatic service, etc.

The guests of the department are also representatives of various international organizations       (K. Adenauer Foundation, F. Ebert Foundation, UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic, etc.)

The main areas of work of the department staff:

  • improving the pedagogical and methodological training of the teaching staff and auxiliary personnel;
  • advanced training and practical skills of the teaching staff;
  • improving the quality of educational, methodological, material and technical, information support of the educational process.

The composition and qualifications of the teaching staff meet the requirements of the educational process to achieve learning outcomes, so all members of the department have an appropriate basic education and systematically improve their qualifications through additional education and internships.
